Electronic and electrical engineers are responsible for the design and development of electronic and electrical aids to modern living. The area of electronic and electrical engineering is very broad and after two years of common study, the SEGi BEng (Hons) Electronic and Electrical Engineering allows you to focus on one of the following major areas:In Year 1, the course aims to consolidate mathematical and engineering knowledge and skills, introducing the fundamentals of electronic and electrical engineering (e.g. analogue and digital electronics, circuits, electronic devices and electromagnetics).Year 2 builds on the fundamentals of electronic and electrical engineering studied in Year 1 with an emphasis on application to real engineering situations. You will also cover measurement and instrumentation techniques to support core skills and knowledge development. In Year 3, you get to undertake a laboratory-based research project while studying more advanced electronic and electrical subjects. You will complete the year by undertaking three months of industrial training which will allow you to further consolidate the knowledge and skills developed throughout your course. In Year 4, you undertake a final year project and choose from electives of your interest as well as subjects outside core engineering studies, which focus on business and entrepreneur skills, which are essential for a professional engineer in the modern world. You will obtain the necessary academic qualifications to allow you to register as a member of professional bodies. You will be prepared for a career not only in the engineering sector but also in a wide variety of other areas and may even choose to embark on a programme of postgraduate study.
